Tania was brought up in Chelsea in London and, as a small child, was fascinated by colour and texture encountered while watching her artist mother, Doreen Bellamy, paint in the open air.
At the age of nine, a painting by her was accepted by the prestigious London Group and purchased by an American philanthropist. It then toured the USA serving as an inspiration to other children to use their creative talents.
In the 1980’s Tania became a leading dealer in English Arts and Crafts jewellery as well as that of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, with many pieces illustrated in such reference books as “Jewellery and Metalwork in the Arts and Crafts Tradition” by Elyse Zorn Karlin, “Antique and 20th. century Jewellery” by Vivienne Becker and “Art Nouveau Jewllery” by the same author. Many pieces that she sourced are now in the Hull Grundy Collection at the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as many private collections around the world.
From there, she and her business partner opened Cobra and Bellamy in London’s Sloane Street, exhibiting their own range of silver jewellery as well as antique and period pieces. Together, they promoted several contemporary jewellery designers, such as Barbara Bertagnolli, commissioning works by them for sale in the shop. It was a truly eclectic mixture to be found nowhere else, resulting in a worldwide clientele.
This led to Cobra and Bellamy opening a highly successful shop within Liberty in Regent Street. There, Tania sourced a considerable collection of Art Nouveau and Liberty Jewellery from the 1900s, the period for which Liberty is famous.
Tania then moved to designing and making her own collection, using 18ct gold and wonderful coloured gemstones, sea green aquamarine, bright green tourmaline, sumptuous emerald and radiant pearls. On her travels to India each year, she has been influenced by the richness and the colour of the country and has taken inspiration from it to create items that are exotic, tactile and beautiful.
